The Amazing Story of My Life After the Pandemic

I was out of sight for almost a year. Here’s what happened.

This story begins right at the end of the pandemic lockdown. The country was slowly opening, and I was back at work—excited, rested, but fully aware that life was about to spin again. I didn’t have as much time for writing, posting, and learning as I did during lockdown. Slowly, I started to feel dissatisfied at work, frustrated at home, and guilty for not chasing what I truly wanted.

Life on standby

During the lockdown, I was surprisingly productive. I missed social life, sure, but I also discovered how much I love creating content, learning, and writing. Once everything reopened, I went back to my old cycle: work, exhaustion, home chores, friends squeezed in, studying, and zero time for myself.

Burnout was real. Even though I loved my personal achievements, the aggressive multitasking, high staff turnover, and endless pressure in the spa industry drained my motivation. Working in a spa is not all scented candles and facials—it’s stressful, demanding, and requires perfection in guest experience. Don’t get me wrong, I was proud of my client reviews, but I also felt I was giving too much for too little in return.

My “amazing story” wasn’t so amazing until…

October 2021. Senior staff was sent to Hydrafacial training. While everyone was buzzing with excitement, my mind was elsewhere. I had a little hunch—I might be pregnant.

A week later, two late days, one test… and my partner found the positive test under his pillow. LOL, not exactly a Pinterest reveal moment.

From that point, everything changed.

Unicornuate uterus – pregnancy with a twist

Here’s the deal: I was diagnosed with a congenital malformation called a unicornuate uterus—basically, I only have half a uterus with one working tube and ovary. Rare, less than 0.5% of women. Cool stat, not so cool when you’re pregnant.

The Irish medical system made things more complicated. Normally, you don’t get to see your baby until 12 weeks. In Romania, they scan you almost immediately. All I wanted to know was: is my baby safe in my tiny uterus? I managed to get an emergency specialist referral, but the stress was insane.

Fast forward: I made it through. Some good weeks, some bad weeks, but here we are. Over 38 weeks, past the risk of premature birth, waiting to meet our baby girl.

Our big decision

Finding out about the baby forced us to see life more clearly. We realized we needed support from family and friends, and better stability for our little one. So we decided to leave Ireland.

We got married in June (yes, pictures are coming—click if you’re curious). Then we packed up our lives and came back home to Romania. I won’t lie: it was hard, scary, and full of “what ifs.” But we did it.

Do I miss Ireland? Of course—the fresh air, the calm, the “zero fucks given” attitude where no one judges what you wear or eat. Romania? Different story. More intense, more judgmental. But it’s home. And for now, this is where we’re raising our daughter.

What’s next?

The plan: maternity leave for two years. Writing for you, learning, and building Skin Education & Wellness.

I’m working on:

  • developing treatments that are simple, effective, and accessible,
  • curating skincare products for my future shop (high quality, friendly budget),
  • offering consultations both online and in my [future] clinic
  • creating education and resources for teens, women, and anyone ready to care for their skin seriously.

Because yes—lockdown taught me that sharing knowledge is my true passion. And motherhood gave me the courage to rebuild everything from scratch.
